Photovoice
Participatory Photography

Photovoice is a powerful research and activism tool by enabling individuals and groups to document and reflect on their community's strengths and challenges through photography. Originally developed as a qualitative participatory research method by Caroline Wang and Mary Ann Burris in 1992, Photovoice aims to provide a platform for participants to using their voice and fostering critical dialogue.

I facilitate Photovoice workshops with the aim to:

  1. Empower young people to capture and reflect on their community’s issues and developments.

  2. Help participants develop skills in dialogue and community engagement using photography as a medium.

  3. Support participants to employ their photographs and narratives to raise their voice in a decision-making context.

With extensive experience as a participation moderator, I have successfully facilitated workshops for young people, including using a Photovoice approach with young boys in Kurdistan by giving them cameras to capture their perspectives. By using photographs, participants can express themselves beyond verbal communication, overcoming social, cultural, and linguistic barriers.

This inclusive approach ensures that everyone, regardless of age, education, language, gender, class or ability, can participate and share their perspectives.

Join our workshops to gain new insights, develop crucial dialogue skills, raise awareness of hidden issues, and drive positive change in your community.
